This project involved completing all the civil, concrete and underground works for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Converter Station at Muskrat Falls. Starting September 2016, the majority of the cast-in-place concrete work had to be performed throughout the challenging winter months. This was a multi-discipline project requiring: laborers, operating engineers, teamsters, carpenters, ironworkers, masons, pipefitters and electricians.

Project Highlights:

  • 120,000 m3 of excavation for site grading and foundations
  • 4,700 m3 of concrete for structural foundations
  • 1,100 m3 placed as precast elements
  • 3,600 m3 installed cast-in-place
  • 4.2 km of subsurface drainage
  • 5.7 km of precast cable trench
  • 43 km of ground wire
