David Mitchell, P. Eng., Chief Executive Officer

David brings over 20 years of progressive management and construction experience to his role as CEO. He holds a Masters Degree in Engineering from Memorial University, along with a variety courses in management and leadership training. David is committed to the sustainable growth of Pennecon Limited through integrated risk management and corporate governance procedures.

Outside of his work with us, David is an avid sailor, a member of the Masonic Order and a Shriner.

Edward Murphy, C.A., Senior Vice President, Finance

Edward began his work with the Penney Group in 1996 as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, bringing his vast experience to our company, and then moved into the role of Vice President of Pennecon Limited. Currently, he is both the Senior Vice President of the Penney Group and Senior Vice President, Finance of Pennecon Limited.

Edward received his C.A. designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland in 1972. Prior to joining us, he held various positions with Doane Raymond during his approximately 20 years with the company, including audit manager, manager of the Marystown, NL office, and then as a senior partner in the firm in 1992. He also worked with CHC Helicopters as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary.

Jerry David White, C.A., Chief Financial Officer

Jerry’s relationship with Pennecon began in September of 2000 as Chief Financial Officer. Along with his role with us, he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and a Member of the Canada Institute of Chartered Accountants. He’s also served as the past Treasurer of the 1996 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. Jerry graduated from the Commerce Faculty at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1971, and went on to obtain his C.A. designation in 1977.

Jerry’s professional life has consisted of several long-term positions. He was as a chartered accountant and audit manager with Grant Thornton Chartered Accountants from 1971to 1978, and from 1978 to 2000, he shared a partnership at Sullivan, Lewis and White, a chartered accountancy firm that provided auditing, accounting, income tax and management advisory services to a variety of diversified firms and organizations. In this partnership, Jerry headed the audit accounting, taxation and special services for a diverse group of clients.

Lorne Bennett, B.Comm., MIR, Corporate Human Resources Manager

Since he started to work with us in 2007, Lorne has developed and implemented construction sector human resources functions for Pennecon Limited. He previously held positions in the oil and gas sector as the Labour Relations Advisor for Hibernia Management & Development Company in St. John’s. In 2005, he was transferred to Ontario with Imperial Oil as the Human Resources Manager for Nanticoke Refinery.

Originally from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Lorne graduated from Memorial University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Human Resources and Labour Relations. He worked for 10 years in the provincial health care sector as a labour relations consultant, representing employers in collective bargaining, grievance management, arbitration and collective agreement interpretation. Lorne continued his education in 1996 and graduated with a Masters in Industrial Relations from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

Michael O'Reilly, B.A, M.Sc, Corporate HSEQ Manager

Michael is our manager of corporate health, safety, environment and quality commitment (HSEQ). Working across all divisions, his mandate is to direct, develop and maintain a clear vision of our HSEQ goals. Michael is focused on the growth of Pennecon Limited as a leader in health, safety, environment and quality in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as across Canada.

Michael worked with Microsoft Corporation in the United States for 11 years prior to taking on his role with us. While working there, he completed a Masters degree in Occupational Health and Safety from Columbia Southern University. Michael graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1998 with a B.A and also holds an IT diploma from ITI in Halifax.
